ABOUT LEA LONGO
“Lea has a haunting, hypnotic, compelling voice, that will draw you into a musical meditation and not let you out again!”- Toronto Kirtan Community
Lea Longo is a world-class singer/songwriter, kirtan artist , Kundalini Yoga teacher, and founder of the Montreal Kirtan community. She has been performing and travelling with her musicians spreading the Naada Yoga or “YOGA of Sound “ throughout Montreal and abroad at major events and festivals including Bhakti Fest, The Toronto Yoga Conference, Open Mind Festival , Yocomo, Fest Yoga, Wanderlust Festival and Montreal Yoga and Chant Fest.
As a songwriter she is no stranger to other musical genres – many of the songs from her previous albums have been used in many popular films and television shows. She also won the Grand Prize of the Canadian National Songwriting Competition.
Lea discovered Indian music in 2006 and subsequently explored sacred chants (mantras) with several masters in India. It was during that time that she decided to pursue her musical and inner quests to a deeper level. In 2007, she unveiled the album ZEN VOYAGE, a new musical experience reflecting her own inner experience of ten sacred mantras derived from Sanskrit texts. Her latest CD, PEACE CHANTS, features new mantras sung in Sanskrit, English and Gurmuki over world beats, guitars and traditional Turkish and Persian instruments. Lea’s voice is captivating and clear, bringing the listener into a state of peace and deep meditation. Lea is now writing and recording for her new album. Listen to her music and voice at www.lealongo.com
WHAT IS KIRTAN?
Kirtan Yoga is a Yoga of Sound where we use chanting mantras and meditation sung in a call response fashion. In India, kirtans are devotional songs usually performed in groups, in the form of songs to answer or mantras sung over a melody. Traditionally, this is an active form of meditation before a period of silence. This deeply inspiring practice opens the heart and reveals our true nature, calming the mind while energizing us on all levels.
