I discovered Yoga at 13 in Paris, France, where I was born and raised. It truly saved my life, as I had trouble breathing. I was not able to take a full inhale nor exhale, as my diaphragm was locked in with physical knots from the internalized tensions caused by the uncertainty and chaos I endured at home. After unfruitful visits to a psychologist, I met my first Yoga Teacher. Her classes started with 5 minutes of relaxation, lying down on our back. And I yawned and yawned endlessly, releasing the deepest tensions I held in my body. I clearly remember this exhilarating feeling of freedom, openness and relaxation, I felt, both physically and mentally, after my very first class. I could fully breath!
The deepest aspects of Yoga philosophy also interested me greatly, as powerful tools for self-reflection & transformation. Hence, I practiced & studied Yoga and lived with a renewed passion. Just 4 years later at 17 years old, I started teaching Yoga in Paris. I loved it! I had found my life purpose.
After completing my Biology and Pharmacology Doctorate degree at Paris V University, I decided to establish new roots & moved to America where I continued to teach Yoga in Los Angeles, while successfully working in the corporate world for 10 years. I completed a Business Administration Certificate at UCLA & continued to learn more about complementary medicines.
Ultimately, I chose to dedicate myself full time to Yoga, Wellness & Meditation, to share those extraordinary tools of transformation in a simple, accessible and relevant way. I have been teaching an integrated Yoga, Meditation & Wellness approach for 20 years now. My corporate work experience has allowed me to understand first hand the stress, imbalances & needs in our society.
For me, Yoga goes beyond the mat- It is an Art & Science of living well & happy in the world- to thrive, belong & contribute in our community.
Born in Paris, Dr. Isabelle Du Soleil, Ph.D. is an internationally acclaimed Yoga Teacher & Wellness Expert. A teacher to both students and teachers for 20 years, she is renowned for her depth of knowledge and unique ability to transmit the deepest teachings in a simple, accessible, and relevant way. She trains celebrities, as well as athletes and students at UCLA, also leading retreats and workshops around the world, fulfilling her dream that began as a student of Yoga since the age of 13.
A charismatic and vibrant speaker, Isabelle has studied extensively across several continents with May Kazan in France, Rod Stryker and Shiva Rea in the United States, and with Pandit Rajmani Tigunait at the Himalayan Institute in India. She has obtained the Yoga Alliance Advanced Yoga Teacher/ Teacher Trainer Certificate (EYRT500), as well as the Yoga Works Certification. Her Doctorate is in Biology and Pharmacy from Paris V Rene Descartes University.

She is also the creator of Soleil Yoga™ Mindfulness & Wellness programs for Stress Reduction, relaxation, and anti-aging, and a specialist in Corporate Yoga Wellness Programs.
She leads several transformational retreats in exotic destinations around the world each year, and Isabelle is a mentor and teacher trainer to the newest generation of Yoga professionals as a respected Yoga teacher. If you’ve ever imagined what is it like to do yoga in the french countryside, Isabelle Du Soleil has you covered.
Isabelle was subbing Annie’s SMARTflow level 2/3, a class that’s always challenging and requires a bit of mental pep talk to get to in the morning. About half way through the class today, I realized that just because Annie wasn’t teaching, didn’t mean we were taking it easy. That was okay, because half way through the class, I was in the flow and not wanting to back down either. Isabelle has a charming french accent and an allure of grace and familiarity. Imagine receiving an invite from your sweet cousin in Alsace, inviting you over for yoga kriyas amongst the lavender.
I picked up on a lot of Shiva Rea inspired movement, as well as very Annie Carpenter like precision and attention to the student bodies. My favorite part of the sequence, however, was the hip opening ending. I always seem to forget about hanumanasana (splits) in my own practice, so it’s nice to have the focus go there in class. Isabelle shared that hip openers brought her closer into herself, into a deeper truth and connection with the earth. I appreciate that.

Describe the kind of yoga you teach:
I teach Energetic Vinyasa Flow™ Yoga, a style I created that merges the energetics of Tantra yoga with Vinyasa flow with an emphasis on mindfulness, alignment and core strength. It also integrates breath and meditation for a powerful, flowing, dynamic practice that is playful in its approach.
Who are your most influential teachers and why?
Nature has always been a source of inspiration and a great teacher. May Kazan, my first yoga teacher back in France, introduced me to Hatha Yoga, Zen meditation, Shiatsu massage, sounds and chanting. During my certification in the U.S., Maty Ezraty and Lisa Walford taught me the principles of Ashtanga and Iyengar. Rod Stryker transmitted to me the depth of Tantra yoga in the lineage of the Himalayan masters. He taught me a vast array of pranayamas, meditations and energetic practices along with intelligent sequencing and yoga philosophy. Shiva Rea taught me the art of creative vinyasa flow. My spiritual teachers are Mani Finger and Pandit Rajmani Tigunai. Both are powerful Tantra masters.
How did you get into yoga?
I met my first Yoga teacher, May Kazan, when I was 14 years old in Paris, where I was born and raised. She exuded such a strong presence. When I found out she was a yoga teacher, I asked her right away if she would teach me. Lucky me, she agreed. It was more intuitive than anything on my part. A few days later, here I was, entering this big room filled with students from all walks of life. I fell in love with yoga right there. I can still remember and feel this amazing feeling of relaxation, spaciousness and freedom I experienced after my first class. My shoulders relaxed, my face and my heart softened. I experienced a spiritual connection that I had always longed for: an anchor and a map to embrace the flux and challenges of life.
How long have you been practicing?
I have been practicing for 30 years. I have been teaching for 20 years.
Why do you teach yoga?
Because I love it. Yoga is the dance of life. It has been empowering, grounding and truly transformative in difficult times, allowing me to overcome life’s many challenges and losses. It is a map for living in our chaotic world, imparting inner peace, clarity, strength and compassion. On the physical level, it fills us with radiance, health and happiness. I want to share the gifts of yoga and to be of service in the world. I also want to share the teachings of peace and non-violence to help alleviate suffering for all beings. Peace starts within.
What do you hope to impart to students?
A sense of centeredness, balance, inner joy and peace. I wish to inspire, energize and empower. I want to share yoga’s ancient wisdom and a way of living which will allow students to realize their full potential, to thrive and to be happy for no reason.
What’s your favorite asana?
The royal dancer or natarajasana, because it is simultaneously a balancing pose and a deep backbend. Coming out of this backbend feels exhilarating and energizing. My heart is open and I feel strong and courageous.
What’s your favorite asana to teach?
Handstand. If we can do handstand, we can do anything in life! I love to help my students overcome their fears of being upside down, to open their hearts, and to find core strength throughout their body. It feels like spring in the yoga class!
